When it comes to water bottles, recycling saves energy and keeps them out of land fills. However, here’s an interesting fact that further builds the case. Did you know that three bottles of water are needed in the process to make just one drinkable bottle? That doesn’t make much sense.
Clearly the best alternative is to drink filtered water in a reusable bottle. Not only is it eco friendly. its healthier and is less expensive. Bottled water is very loosely monitored, so there’s a good chance the water you are drinking is not regulated at all. Furthermore, while some companies bottle mineral and spring water, often you get water from the public supply that has been “purified”. In this case, you are basically paying for tap water.
Even so, bottled water is everywhere, so if you find yourself drinking it or if it is your preference, be sure to recycle. Keep in mind that making plastic from recycled plastic takes 82% less energy.
Right now only one in every five bottles is recycled, so there is plenty of room for improvement.
